Funchal avenue, formerly the Caminho da Pena, named after a president of the municipal council who died in 1878.
This is the former Caminho da Pena (‘crag’). It runs from the old Rua das Hortas, now Rua do Alferes Veiga Pestana, to the Levada de Santa Luzia (‘St Lucy’s channel’).
Pedro José de Ornelas was president of the Municipal Council of Funchal and died on 12 January 1878, aged 59.
