Pedra Mole
A yellowish tuff found in Madeira which, mixed with gravelly soil, makes excellent vineyard soil according to Bowdich.
A yellowish tuff found in various parts of Madeira. When reduced to powder it is very light, and it is therefore easily washed away by the rains. Combined with saibro (gravelly weathered soil), it makes, says Thomas Edward Bowdich, an excellent soil for vines. According to the same author, the specific gravity of pedra mole (‘soft stone’: soft yellowish tuff and its soil) is 1.95.
