Nativity of Our Lady (chapel)

Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Natividade, also called the chapel of Faial, on the Quinta do Faial in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, Funchal. It was built by Zenobio Acciaioly on the entailed lands founded by his father Simão Acciaioly.
In the locality (sítio) of Faial, in the parish (freguesia) of Santa Maria Maior (‘St Mary Major’), on the quinta (country estate) of that name, stands the chapel of the Nativity of Our Lady (Nossa Senhora da Natividade), or of Faial, as it is more commonly known. It was built on the lands of the entail founded by Simão Acciaioly, who died in 1544. The chapel was built by Zenobio Acciaioly, his son and successor in the administration of the entailed estate (morgadio).
