Lagoa
A small locality in the parish of Santo da Serra occupying the blocked crater of a volcano, which fills with water in long winters to form a small lake of about 6,000 square metres.
In the parish (freguesia) of Santo da Serra (‘the saint of the uplands’), forming the blocked crater of a volcano, lies a small village (lugar, settlement rank below a town) known as the Lagoa (‘lake’). In the longer winters it fills with water, forming a small lake with a surface area of approximately six thousand square metres. It is a picturesque spot and was much visited in former times.
