Alberto Figueira Jardim (b. 1882), Funchal lawyer, lyceum teacher, public official and author of verse and a booklet on Madeira in English.
He was born in this city on 10 April 1882, the son of the lawyer Dr Nuno Ferreira Jardim and Dona Isabel Figueira Jardim. He is a bachelor (bacharel, university graduate) in law of the University of Coimbra (Universidade de Coimbra) and a permanent teacher at the Funchal Lyceum (state secondary school). The public offices he has held include those of member of the District General Council (Junta Geral do Distrito), president of the executive committee of the same Council, member of the Municipal Council (Câmara Municipal) and substitute judge of this judicial district (comarca). Besides various contributions to some newspapers, he wrote in English the pamphlet Madeira, the Pearl of the Atlantic, Lisbon, 1914, and in Portuguese the book of poems Amostras, Funchal, 1915, and the verse tragedy Galateia, Funchal, 1920.
