The sunflower, an annual plant of Peruvian origin widely grown in Madeira, whose seeds feed poultry and whose leaves feed livestock.

An annual plant widely cultivated in Madeira. It belongs to the family Compositae, is native to Peru and produces flower heads one to two decimetres in diameter. Its achenes serve as food for poultry, and the leaves are eaten with relish by sheep and cows.
