Cumiada de São Vicente

Original title: Cumiada de S. Vicente

The São Vicente ridge at 1,000 metres, from which both coasts are visible, reached by a road opened in 1916 and home to a very rare clubmoss.

Map: Madeira (3)

It stands 1000 metres above sea level, and on clear days both the north and the south of Madeira can be seen from it. The road leading from Câmara de Lobos (‘seals’ den’) to the Cumiada, by way of Ribeira Brava (‘wild river’), was opened in 1916. Near the Cumeada de São Vicente (‘ridge of São Vicente’) grows Lycopodium complanatum, a clubmoss that is extremely rare in Madeira.
