Poetic cycle
Original title: Ciclo Poetico
Discusses Teófilo Braga's thesis that fifteenth-century Madeiran poets formed a distinct poetic cycle, a view disputed by the annotator of Saudades da Terra.
In the book Poetas Palacianos, Teófilo Braga devoted some pages to various Madeiran poets of the 15th century, whom the illustrious writer believed could constitute a poetic cycle distinct from that of the mainland poets. The distinguished annotator of ‘Longing for the Homeland’ (Saudades da Terra) disagrees with this assertion, for the learned and weighty reasons he sets out on p. 770 ff. of that work. It is an interesting question, which deserves to be read and weighed by those who devote themselves to history and literary criticism.
