Chagas (Friar Damião das)

Original title: Chagas (Fr. Damião das)

Friar Damião das Chagas, Funchal-born Arrábida friar who died in 1600 and wrote an unpublished ascetic work.

He was born in Funchal and died in 1600 on the mainland of the Kingdom (reino, i.e. mainland Portugal). He was an Arrábida friar, an order whose seat was in the Serra da Arrábida. He held important offices in his congregation, and Diogo Barbosa Machado says that he wrote an ascetic work in two volumes, which was never published.
