Santa Cruz (‘Holy Cross’) once had a small landing place, built in 1845, and later a quay built on the orders of the Public Works Department (Direção das Obras Públicas) in 1870 or shortly afterwards. The present quay is the work of the District General Council (Junta Geral do Distrito) and was built from 1908 to 1909. Porto Novo (‘new harbour’) quay. The small landing place in this locality was built by the General Council in 1904, 1905 and 1908.

  • Public Works had a quay built at Santa Cruz, improving its landing stage.
  • The Junta Geral built the Porto Novo landing stage in 1904, 1905 and 1908.
  • The Junta Geral do Distrito built the larger present quay at Santa Cruz.
