Bryozoans

Short account of the marine bryozoans of Madeira and the naturalists who studied them, notably A. M. Norman's list of 130 species.

The bryozoans of Madeira studied to date are all of marine origin, and the following naturalists have worked on them: Professor G. Busk, the Revd Thomas Hincks, Artur W. Waters, James Yate Johnson and, recently, Dr Alfred Merle Norman. The last of these lists in his work 130 species from Madeira, Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’) and the Savage Islands (Selvagens), of which 7 are new to science and 39 had not previously been found in the waters of this archipelago.
