Alfred Merle Norman was an English zoologist who visited Madeira in 1897 and 1908 and published on its land isopods and polyzoa.

A distinguished English zoologist, now deceased, who visited Madeira in 1897 and 1908. The English naturalist Randolph Kirkpatrick (see that entry) named after him Merlia Normani, a curious sponge found by the Madeiran naturalist Adolfo de Noronha in the seas off Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’). Works: The Land Isopoda of Madeira (1899) and The Polyzoa of Madeira and Neighbouring Islands (Linnean's Society's Journ.-Zool., XXX, 1909).
