Bartolomeu (João)
Engineer appointed in 1618 as director of the fortifications then being built in Madeira.
By royal decree (alvará) of 10 November 1618 he was appointed engineer-director of the fortifications then being built on this island. Manuel Tomás refers to him in very laudatory terms in book X of ‘The Island Epic’ (Insulana). (See Diccionario dos Arch. e Eng. Port., vol. 2, p. 34.)
