An inhabited locality in Santo António parish, Funchal, site of the chapel of Nossa Senhora do Amparo (1698) and seat of the old entail of Água de Mel.
An inhabited locality (sítio) in the parish of Santo António, Funchal. It is the site of the chapel of Our Lady of Protection (Nossa Senhora do Amparo), built in 1698 by Bartolomeu de Sá Machado; together with its manor house and adjoining lands, it formed the seat of the entailed estate (morgadio) of Água de Mel (‘honey water’), one of the oldest entails (instituições vinculares) in Madeira, whose last representative was the 2nd Count of Carvalhal (‘oak grove’). In this locality, at the spot called Til, there were entailed lands (terras vinculadas) under the direct administration of a Velosa family.
