Place street/square Sé Funchal
Rua do Carmo is a Funchal street named after the church of Nossa Senhora do Carmo; it includes the former Rua da Laranjeira and forms part of the boundary of Santa Luzia parish. It was once named after Gonçalo Aires and was renamed in 1922 in honour of Dr. António Aurélio da Costa Ferreira. The street housed the Hotel Miles and the headquarters of Miss Mary Jane Wilson's congregation, and the artillery company sent in 1917 was quartered there.
