Person navigator military officer captain-major of Malacca
António de Abreu
navigator · military officer · captain-major of Malacca
Navigator and soldier held to be Madeiran, probably born at Arco da Calheta, who served in Morocco and India, led the 1511–12 voyage to the Moluccas and later became captain-major of Malacca. Some writers hold he may have sighted Australia, though the Arquivo Histórico da Madeira questions his Madeiran birth.
