Army officer deported to Madeira during the French invasions under false suspicion of aiding Napoleon, having interpreted for French and Spanish generals. He became secretary-general of the island government, wrote a historical-geographical statistics of Madeira and Porto Santo (Paris, 1815) and died consul at Genoa in 1845. The notes also mention a separate Florentine Giraldes, who lived in Calheta c.1500–1535 and founded its Misericórdia in 1535.
