Alberto Artur Sarmento

Funchal-born infantry officer, writer and self-taught naturalist who wrote extensively on Madeira's history, geology and fauna, including works on mammals, fishes and ants. He taught natural sciences at the lyceum, secured its museum's natural-history collections in 1913–14, and contributed several articles to the Elucidário.
