Cenoura da Rocha (Monizia edulis)
A plant with a thick underground stem and flowering stems of 3 to 8 decimeters, with triangular leaves, the lower ones 3-4 pinnate; umbels with 20-25 rays; white or violet petals. This Umbelliferous plant, which is very ornamental, has been found in Curral das Freiras, Deserta Grande, and the Selvagens; its underground stems can be eaten and have a taste that somewhat resembles chestnuts. The rock carrot is also known by the name 'nozelha'.
