Abrotea do Baixo (Phycis mediterranea)

The Abrotea do Baixo, or simply abrotea, is a fish from the seas of Madeira, belonging to the cod family. It is common and can be found in the markets throughout the year. It has solitary habits, living in rocky bottoms, where it is usually caught with a briqueira. Esteemed for its white, delicate, and easily digestible flesh.
