Boal de cheiro

Short description of Boal de cheiro, a Boal variant grown in São Gonçalo, Funchal, possibly the 'marôto' mentioned by Pimentel.

It differs from the local Boal in having leaves that are sometimes less cottony, petiolar sinuses generally more open, teeth almost always deeper and more acute, bunches less dense and berries less firm (sometimes soft), elliptical-globose or ovate. It is grown in São Gonçalo (Funchal). This may be the grape variety mentioned in Mr Pimentel’s article under the name marôto.
