Carmelite friar who preached in the Colégio church in Funchal at the thanksgiving for the Marquis of Pombal's escape from an assassination plot; his sermon was printed in Lisbon in 1776.
He belonged to the Carmelite order and preached in the church of the College (Igreja do Colégio, the Jesuit college church) during the splendid celebrations held there in thanksgiving for the Marquis of Pombal’s escape from the crime planned by the Genoese João Batista Pelle, who was executed on 11 October 1775. Friar Inácio’s address was published under the following title: Oração na acção de graças que a Real Junta da Fazenda da ilha da Madeira fez celebrar pela prodigiosa conservação da muito necessária vida do Illustrissimo e Excelentissimo Senhor Marquez de Pombal Sebastião José de Carvalho e Mello na egreja de São João Evangelista da cidade do Funchal em 20 de Janeiro dirigida pelo seu presidente o Illustrissimo e Excellentissimo Senhor João Antonio de Sá Pereira, do concelho de S. Funchal. Church of São João Evangelista in Funchal where the thanksgiving sermon was preached.
The Igreja do Colégio (São João Evangelista) is the Jesuit college church in the parish of Sé, Funchal, built after 1508. It was the starting point of several processions, the scene of the 1776 thanksgiving ceremonies and anniversary Te Deums, and the burial place of D. Francisco Henriques. It holds a 16th-century painting.
