São Vicente (municipal court district)
Original title: São Vicente (Julgado Municipal de)
Describes the municipal court district (julgado municipal) of São Vicente, created in 1931 and covering the parishes of São Vicente, Ponta Delgada and Boaventura. It also notes the earlier comarca of São Vicente, established in 1875–76 and abolished in 1926.
The municipal court district (julgado municipal) of São Vicente (‘St Vincent’), with its seat in the parish (freguesia) and town (vila) of the same name, was created by decree of 24 October 1931. It covers the parishes of São Vicente, Ponta Delgada and Boaventura, which make up the corresponding municipality (concelho). In 1926 the judicial district (comarca) of São Vicente had been abolished; it had been established by decree of 12 November 1875 and formally installed on 16 November 1876.
- A decree reorganised Madeira's judicial administration into four comarcas: Funchal, Ponta do Sol, Santa Cruz and São Vicente, making São Vicente the seat of a judicial district.
- Judicial reorganisation: the comarca of São Vicente was installed and the single comarca of Funchal, divided into nine julgados, replaced the western and eastern comarcas.
- The comarca of São Vicente was abolished.
- A decree created the julgado municipal of São Vicente, covering the three parishes of the municipality.
