Salmonete do alto (Polymixia nobilis)

The deep-water fish Polymixia nobilis, known in Madeira as 'salmonete do alto'. It is caught with deep-sea lines and prized as one of the most valuable species in Madeiran waters for its flavour.

A scombrid fish that lives at a relatively great depth and is generally caught with the gorazeira (deep-water longline for sea bream) or the briqueira (a Madeiran hand line for bottom fishing). Its excellent flavour makes it one of the most valuable species in the waters of Madeira.
