Ribeiro (Manuel)

Manuel Ribeiro, pseudonym of Mardónio da Câmara, was a Lisbon-born poet resident in Funchal from childhood, who contributed to newspapers and published four slim books of verse between 1903 and 1913.

He was born in Lisbon on 31 August 1861 but has lived in Funchal since childhood. He has contributed to various newspapers and is a poet of merit, the author of the following slim volumes:

  • Flores Agrestes, Funchal, 1903, 67 pp.
  • Pyrilampos, Funchal, 1905, 56 pp.
  • Outomnaes, Funchal, 1910, 55 pp.
  • and Poentes, Funchal, 1913, 96 pp.

The poet’s real name is Mardónio da Câmara; Manuel Ribeiro is merely a pseudonym, but one that he adopted for all his literary works.
