Ponta Delgada (point and landing places)

Original title: Ponta Delgada (Ponta e Portos de)

Describes the headland of Ponta Delgada on Madeira's north coast and its small harbour and beaches, which serve Ponta Delgada, Boaventura and Arco de São Jorge.

Map: Madeira (4)

In this parish (freguesia) there is a projection of the coastline called Ponta Delgada (‘slender point’). In its immediate vicinity lie a small landing place and a narrow beach, which serve this parish and those of Boaventura (‘good fortune’) and Arco de São Jorge (‘arc of São Jorge’). Around 1908 a short ramp was built there, giving access to the small beach, to make it easier to transport goods. There is also a short beach at the locality called Passo da Areia (‘sand pass’).

Chronology
