Pintainho (Puffinus obscurus)

The pintainho or little shearwater, a seabird of the shearwater family found on all islands of the archipelago and common on the Desertas.

A bird of the shearwater family (Procellariidae), close to the boieiro, from which it differs in its smaller size and in having bluish-grey feet instead of flesh-coloured ones. It lives on all the islands of the archipelago and is common on the Desertas (‘deserted islands’). It is also known as the pintelho, from a particular cry it can be heard giving in flight. It is often absent during the hot season, and usually lays a single white egg in rock crevices, generally on the bare ground.
