Thresher shark (Alopecias vulpes)

The thresher shark (Alopecias vulpes), a large migratory shark up to 5 m occasionally seen off the archipelago, said to be harmless.

It belongs to the family Mitsukurinidae and is one of the largest migratory sharks that appear from time to time in the seas of the archipelago. It can reach 5 metres in length and is caught in mid-water, generally far from the coast. It is said to be harmless to humans.
