Biography of a Calheta-born lawyer, secretary of the Junta Geral and distinguished musician who led a musical group and the Madeiran orfeão.
He was born in Calheta (‘small cove’) on 3 March 1872 and graduated in law from the University of Coimbra (Universidade de Coimbra) in 1896. He is retired secretary of the District General Council (Junta Geral do Distrito) and a most distinguished musician, being director of the musical group that bears his name and conductor of the Madeiran choral society (orfeão), which the Funchal public has on various occasions had the chance to appreciate at the Dr. Manuel de Arriaga theatre.
