Map: Madeira (4)

This is now the name of the former Largo do Colégio. The churchyard of the church of São João Evangelista (St John the Evangelist), the church of the College (Colégio), was partly demolished at the beginning of 1836 to make way for the Largo do Colégio.

Its considerable enlargement, the freeing of the town hall (Paços do Concelho) from the adjoining buildings, the construction of the imposing public fountain and other notable improvements carried out there date from 1943 and 1944.
