Intestinal worms
Original title: Vermes intestinais
Folk remedies used in Madeira against intestinal worms, such as pumpkin seeds and pomegranate root bark for tapeworm and peppermint or garlic for roundworms.
For tapeworm, or solitária, the remedies used are pumpkin seeds (those of the abóbora machado pumpkin being the most effective) and a decoction of the bark of the pomegranate root. For roundworms, or the small worms that often appear in children’s intestines, their expulsion is helped with peppermint tea or peppermint lozenges. Crushed garlic is sometimes used against roundworms.
