Frederico dos Santos Martins (b. 1869), Funchal-born lawyer in Lisbon, deputy for Madeira and author on maritime commercial law.

He is the son of the wealthy landowner Manuel Martins, was born in this city on 1 November 1869, and holds a bachelor’s degree (bacharel, university graduate) in law from the University of Coimbra (Universidade de Coimbra). He settled in Lisbon many years ago and practises law there with distinction. He represented Madeira in the Cortes (Portuguese parliament) in the legislative sessions of 1902-1904 1904 and 1906. He has published some of his legal work in defence of various civil and commercial cases in several pamphlets. He is the author of the notable work Direito Comercial Maritimo, of which only the first part has appeared, in one volume of 383 pages, in 1932.
