João Augusto Martins, Cape Verdean-born colonial army doctor who wrote on Madeira's climate.
An army doctor of the overseas service, now deceased. He was a native of Cape Verde and had qualified at the Lisbon Medical School (Escola Medica de Lisboa). Works: A Madeira e o seu clima, Lisbon, 1901, 10 pp., and Madeira, Cabo Verde e Guiné, Lisbon, 1891, 271 pp. This last work is commendable for the correctness, elegance and spontaneous charm with which it is written.
