Porbeagle (Lamna cornubica)
Original title: Marracho (Lamna cornubica)
The porbeagle shark, a dangerous lamnid shark hunted by Madeiran fishermen, also called anequim.
A shark of the family Lamnidae, which also lives in the waters off Setúbal, Buarcos and Sesimbra. It attacks humans and destroys various useful species, and is therefore hunted by fishermen, especially when it comes close to the coast. It is also known by the name anequim.
Fishermen usually catch porbeagles with the gaff (bicheiro) (see that entry), and then kill them by clubbing or by some other means.
