White horehound, a perennial labiate common on Porto Santo and found on Madeira and the Desertas, used as a tonic infusion.
A perennial labiate, common on Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’). It has also been found near the chapel of Piedade (Our Lady of Pity) on the island of Madeira, and on all three of the Desertas (‘deserted islands’). Its flowers are white and its leaves ovate-suborbicular, wrinkled, and greyish or whitish. An infusion of horehound is used as a tonic, stimulant and emmenagogue medicine.
