Guava tree (Psidium pyriferum)

The guava tree, a small West Indian myrtle cultivated and naturalised in Madeira's lower zone, whose fruit makes a fine preserve; it has become less common.

A small tree native to the West Indies, cultivated and naturalised in the lower zone (coastal belt) of Madeira. The fruits (guavas) of this member of the Myrtaceae are made into a very tasty preserve. The guava tree is much less common today than it once was.
