Araçá
Two Brazilian guava species of the myrtle family, the yellow and purple araçá, commonly grown in Funchal for their fruit and leaves used against diarrhoea.
Two species known as araçás are frequently grown in Funchal: Psidium littorale (yellow araçá) and P. Cattheyanum (purple araçá). Both are native to Brazil and belong to the myrtle family (Myrtaceae). Their fruit is tasty, and an infusion of their leaves can be used to treat diarrhoea.
