Garreta (Léon)

Young French naturalist who explored the Selvagens in June 1911, briefly visited Madeira, and died in the First World War.

A young French naturalist who carried out a scientific exploration of the Savage Islands (Selvagens) in June 1911 and also visited Madeira, where he stayed for a few days. He was travelling in the small sloop Adolphe Marie, which very nearly foundered on his return to Europe.

Garreta met his death on the battlefields of France, in 1914 or shortly afterwards.
