The Funchal Guarantee insurance company (Companhia de Seguros Garantia Funchalense) was founded in this city on 6 January 1907, with a share capital of 200,000,000 réis (old Portuguese money of account; 1$000 = 1,000 réis, 1:000$000 = one conto = 1,000,000 réis), for the purpose of providing land and marine insurance.
