The woodcock, a bird that breeds in Madeira's wooded interior valleys and is much hunted.

A bird of the family Charadriidae, subfamily Scolopacinae, which breeds in Madeira, preferring the wooded valleys of the interior, such as Ribeira da Janela (‘window stream’), etc. It is much pursued by hunters.
