Furtado (Diogo de Mendonça)

Diogo de Mendonça Furtado was appointed governor and captain-general of Madeira in 1659 and took office in 1660. Shortly afterwards he presented to the Funchal council the deed by which D. João IV had granted the archipelago to Princess D. Catarina.

He was appointed governor and captain-general of Madeira on 17 December 1659 and took office on 2 December 1660.

Five days later he went to the council house of this city and presented to the Senate (senado, the municipal council) the deed of grant by which John IV had given this archipelago to Queen Catherine, so that it might be duly registered. See Grant of the island of Madeira to Catherine of Braganza.
