Caracol da Vinha (Helix pisana)
The land snail Helix pisana, found in eastern Madeira, lowland Porto Santo and the Selvagens; on Porto Santo it was used to feed domestic ducks.
A gastropod mollusc found in the far eastern part of Madeira, in the low-lying part of Porto Santo (‘holy harbour’) and also on the Savage Islands (Selvagens). On Porto Santo, where it was once very abundant, it is used to feed domestic ducks.
