Câmara (Jaime Sanches)

Biographical entry on Jaime Sanches Câmara (born Funchal, 1881), assistant land registrar in Funchal and poet, who co-directed the Almanach de Lembranças Madeirense and published several books of verse.

He was born in Funchal on 13 March 1881, the son of José António da Câmara and Dona Helena Celisa Gomes Câmara. He is assistant to the land registrar (conservador do registo predial) of the judicial district (comarca) of Funchal and has contributed a great deal of verse to various periodicals. For some years he was one of the directors of the Almanach de Lembranças Madeirense, and he has published the following books: Poema Antigo, Lisbon, 1907, 235 pp.; Satyra, o funeral do Cyriaco, Funchal, 1910, 15 pp.; O Rufo, Lisbon, 1914, 16 pp.; Junia, Lisbon, 1918, 22 pp.; Fructos, 1920; Carta em prosa, 1921; Auto de Villões, 1927.
