A gadoid fish often caught in the waters off Madeira on hook lines. Apart from the black scabbardfish, it is, among the fine species, the one fished at the greatest depth. It is also called, though incorrectly, abrótea do alto (‘deep-sea forkbeard’, a local name for the common mora), and sometimes robalo branco.
