Brief biography of Remígio António Gil Spínola Barreto (b. 1870), a Santa Cruz-born lawyer and notary who served as substitute civil governor of Funchal district in 1913 and was elected senator for Madeira in 1915.

By decree of 1 May 1913 he was appointed substitute civil governor of this district, taking office on the 10th of the same month and year. He was elected senator for Madeira on 13 July 1915. He is a bachelor (bacharel, university graduate) in law and a notary in the city of Funchal, and was born in the town (vila) of Santa Cruz (‘Holy Cross’) on 24 February 1870.
