Funchal-born physician and surgeon who graduated in medicine at Paris in 1880. He was famed for a delicate operation on Bishop D. Manuel Agostinho Barreto in 1880 and for a published controversy with the Conde de Canavial. He attended the poet António Nobre in Madeira and attributed the 1888 anaemia cases in Porto da Cruz to hookworm.
