Martin Vahl was a Danish botanist of Copenhagen who stayed in Madeira in 1901–02 and 1920–21, visiting Porto Santo on the second trip. He published studies of Madeira's vegetation in 1904 and 1905, and his placing of the dry lowland vegetation in the steppe domain was rejected by the Elucidário.
