Coimbra-trained lawyer from Câmara de Lobos, nicknamed 'Dr. Piolho', who held many municipal offices in Funchal and wrote on Madeira's mineralogy, history and geography. His works include the genealogical Arvores de Costados de Familias da ilha da Madeira, and he was first president of the Sociedade Funchalense dos Amigos das Ciências e Artes.
