J. Adams was an English physician who in 1802 obtained permission to vaccinate foundlings weekly. He was apparently the first doctor to apply vaccination in Madeira.

Dr J. Adams was licensed by the governor and captain-general to vaccinate foundlings against smallpox, apparently the first vaccination in Madeira; the Funchal town council received his request for foundlings on 27 October 1802.
