Madeiran-born royal factor in Funchal and author of the Tratado das Ilhas Novas (1570) on the New Islands and the settlement of Newfoundland, printed in Ponta Delgada in 1877 and 1884. The notes under this name also refer to other namesakes, including a governor-general from 1627 and a Funchal pharmacist.
